Edmund's Street Renovation

This renovation/addition opens up the interior of a charming but claustrophobic 1940s traditional house. First floor spaces are no longer separated by walls and doors but by freestanding elements—closet, powder room and stair, which allow longer and richer vistas both within and out to the garden. As the wall for the TV was removed, a lift now comes up from the rear of the kitchen counter to allow viewing on demand. On the second floor a new master bath floats over the first floor garden room addition. Throughout, the modesty of the original house is preserved in both scale and impact, even while connecting the interior to the garden in a much more direct way.
